Committees

We have a number of activities that help our children throughout the year. To keep things moving, small committees have been created to focus on specific areas. Click on any of the links below to learn more about these committees, what services they provide, and how you can help. ?

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops for EducationChairperson: Gina Ibri
This committee collects the "Box Tops for Education" labels that appear on General Mills products. The school earns points for these box tops, and at the end of the year we can cash in our points for money and buy supplies or equipment for the school. To make this more fun, the PTO will hold contests between each of the classrooms! The group with the most box tops at the end of the contest receives a special treat. Visit their website (www.boxtops4education.com) for more information on how to earn points for our school.

Birthday Books

Chairperson: Colleen Beattie
The PTO would like to recognize everyone's birthday, even the students who celebrate over the summer! Every month books will be available in the Café and students who are celebrating their birthday that month will pick out a book that they can keep for their own reading pleasure!

Campbell Soup Labels

Labels for EducationChairperson: Wendi Kenney
This committee collects Campbell's Soup Labels throughout the year. The school earns points for each label collected, and at the end of the year we cash in points for items and supplies for the school. To make this more fun, the PTO will hold contests at the same time as the Box Tops contest, just to make things more interesting. The classroom with the most labels at the end of the contest will receive a special treat. For more information visit www.labelsforeducation.com.

Coats for Kids

Coats for KidsChairperson: Carrie Wyffels
To make sure that our community's children are warm during the winter this committee collects gently used coats of all sizes. The coats will go to children from newborns to teenagers.

Family Fun Fair

Chairpersons:
This is a time for all the students and their families, teachers, and staff to come together for a celebration! It's a time for food, games, prizes and more! It's a chance for everyone to mix and mingle with other families in the school and to enjoy a night out together! Volunteers are needed to collect donations from local business owners for raffle prizes, a restaurant is needed to sponsor the food (last year was National Coney Island), games need to be made and/or set up the night before and so much more needs to be done, but with a group of volunteers the tasks are minimal!

Hawk Walk

Spooktacular Hallow-A-ThonChairpersons: Melissa Klein
This is our largest and most profitable fundraiser that we have all year! It's a chance for us to raise money at the beginning of the school year, so we can schedule special assemblies, provide classroom funds for the teachers, assist with field trips and fifth grade camp and much much more! This committee consists of many volunteers and they will be busy putting together food, activities, crafts, music, and more! It's a great event to be a part of, so we hope to see you there!

Market Day

Market DayChairperson: Angie Burton
This committee handles Market Day fundraiser throughout the school year. They are responsible for providing families with information regarding Market Day groceries, collecting the order forms and money from the sales and distributing the orders once a month (volunteers are always needed on pick-up day).

Meet the Teacher Night

Chairpersons: PTO Board
The PTO prepares a bulletin board welcoming the teachers, staff, students, or parents. They set up a table in the hallway and provide information about the PTO, pass out volunteer forms, provide information on Market Day, Box Tops, and provide any other important literature. The PTO welcomes new families to the school and they discuss all the activities that go on throughout the year!

Public Relations

Chairperson: Nicole Bonucchi
This committee contacts local newspapers, radio stations, and local television stations regarding our school's success stories; Profit Share Nights, and any Community Service Campaigns that our school participates in, for example "Wigs 4 Kids" and "Coats for Kids." This person also posts information regarding any fundraising event on the WCS local cable stations and changes the message board outside on a monthly basis.

Red Ribbon Week

Chairperson: Cathy and Jeff Brown
It's a week-long celebration and this committee raises awareness concerning the problems related to the use of tobacco, alcohol and violence. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan recognized this week to honor all those who risk their lives in order to prevent abuse and violence in relationship to drugs. This committee will have something planned every day for one week for each of the students.

Spirit Wear

Chairperson:
"Fire UP!" This committee selects a vendor and spirit wear items for the school, and coordinates several spirit wear sales throughout the year. Volunteers are needed to assist with the distribution.

Talent Show

Chairpersons: Monica Orlando & Nicole Bonucchi
At a PTO meeting, parents will vote on whether or not to continue having the Talent show. In previous years, there was a teacher who chaired this event; however, that teacher is now at another elementary school. If the vote is "YES" to have the show, then the committee heads up a day/night of talent for the school and for the parents! They run tryouts, rehearsals, and the main show during the day for students and in the evening for family. There is a need for volunteers to assist with decorations, to help the performers as they prepare to go on stage, create programs, someone to handle water and snacks to sell, etc. Time and planning goes into this, but it's a really great night for our "shining stars" who want to perform! So, if you have the time and talent that will make this a successful night, please volunteer to chair this event, and remember NEW IDEAS are always welcome!

Bowling Committee
